RE: Together, apart for Pride Week 2021.

Dear Community,

Here we are again, getting closer to a month that typically represents coming together, celebration, and visibility for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. It is with heavy hearts, that we must state that this year, we again need to be apart in order to keep each other safe.

As a community we face unprecedented challenges in this harrowing, isolating and scary time, particularly those among us who are most marginalized. We are in a collective moment of grief and precarity, which uniquely positions us, as 2SLGBTQIA+ folks with a long and storied history of coming together and overcoming. As a community, we understand struggle, fear, and loss in ways that our loved ones, neighbours, families and colleagues may not. These are heightened times, but if anyone knows how to band together and advocate for community safety, health, and collectivity it is the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

In light of COVID-19 and in order to keep each other as safe, healthy, and secure as possible, Brantford Pride will not be able to host any in-person gatherings for the 2021 Brantford Pride Week. 2021 represents the 10th year of Pride in Brantford, so do expect to see some fun things happening virtually and in the community as a means to mark this milestone year! (Things like a virtual flag raising event, and celebrating the new rainbow crosswalk ) We will continue to find ways to connect through social distancing, and to support the most vulnerable members of our community through practices of mutual aid and grassroots care.

Thank you all for your ongoing care and support—we see you; we love you, and know that despite how heavy and isolating the world feels right now—you are not alone.

With fierce love + solidarity,

The Brantford Pride Committee

RE: Pride Week 2020 Cancelled.

Dear Community,

We, as a community, faces unique challenges in this difficult time, particularly those among us who are most marginalized.

In light of COVID-19, and in order to keep each other as safe, healthy, and secure as possible, Brantford Pride will not be proceeding with our 2020 Pride Week festivities. We were in the process of securing permits from the City for both the Pride March and Pride in the Park, and will no longer be continuing that process. Further, the grants that we typically rely on to make Brantford Pride a success are on hold indefinitely. This was not an easy decision to make, but we know that it is the most strategic and safest call in these complicated times.

We will continue to find ways to connect through social distancing, and to support the most vulnerable members of our community through practices of mutual aid and grassroots care. We encourage everyone to keep up-to-date with community action through the Brantford-Brant Caremongering Facebook page (link here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/213797779864927/?fref=nf). And stay tuned to our Facebook page for new content and ways of fostering connection digitally.

We cannot wait for Pride 2021, a year that marks a decade of 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride in the Brantford-Brant community. Thank you all for your ongoing care and support—we see you, we love you, and know that despite how heavy and isolating the world feels right now—you are not alone.

With care,

The Brantford Pride Committee
